STEM CELL RESEARCH
Stem Cell Research is a promising advancement in medical sciences. Stem Cells are found in all multi-cellular organisms and have a variety of significant medical applications. This is due to the ability of stem cells to replicate themselves and to generate various specialized cell types. These cells then can be used to repair damaged tissues and organs.
The significance of Stem Cell Research in modern medicine is that it offers hope for recovery of a variety of conditions that are not responsive to other treatments. Conditions that are the subject of studies include spinal cord injuries, frailty, degenerative conditions such as osteoarthritis and Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes mellitus, peripheral neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, cardiac failure, malignancies, etc. Many of these improvements are supported by animal studies and stage I and II human studies.
